US Navy video of Second Life use

Certain policies

The ATEM session on developing University policies strongly recommended that policies/guidelines etc should be developed to reflect what is comfortably achieveable in a policy area; not to create a governance structure to enforce change by requiring compliance.

CMS – local development community

Melanie Pittard mentioned that the MySource Matrix open source CMS system UTAS is investing in supported by Squiz Net, has both a Hobart office and a whole of (Tas) government contract.  So there is a local development community that can be drawn upon.

MS Office Comms Suite alternative to Elluminate?

ITR will be trialling MS Office Communications Suite with 100 users (perhaps just ITR staff) very shortly. Melaine Pittard felt this might be an equivalent solution to Elluminate.

A good example of Second Life machinima. It’s an art piece and very nicely done.

A Canadian University celebrates the successful use of Second Life in their Teaching and Learning. Full details here. Memorial University also has a 6 minute overview video of Second Life which is quite good.
